Feather Your Nest Card

As soon as I saw the Bitten By The Bug challenge this week, the idea for this card formed.  This is a shaped trifold card that has a pocket on the inside for a gift card/check or money.
I started with a piece of 8.5"x 12" white cardstock scored at 4" and 8" to make the trifold base.  Using my Gypsy, I welded the birdhouse from Stretch Your Imagination cartridge and the frame from Accent Essentials cartridge.  The frame is 4.25" high and rotated 90 degrees and the birdhouse is 4.50" high.  I cut the welded frame and birdhouse from purple cardstock and then traced it onto the "front" of my trifold card.  I then cut it out except along the right (folded) edge.  I then cut another birdhouse out of the striped paper (which was inspired by my daughter's curtain which you can see in the background of my picture).  I used a navy blue cardstock for the trim pieces on the birdhouse.  I used dimensional foam to attach the birdhouse to the purple welded shape (which was glued to the white cardstock).  I then cut two birds from Gypsy Font cartridge at 1" high.  I used more dimensional foam to attach them to the front of the card.

The middle and back sections were shaped in a similar manner.  I first adhered the cloud paper to both pieces.  I used the tree branch from the Serenade cartridge cut at 2.75" high for the back layer and 2" high for the middle layer.  I played around with the angle of the branches and then traced and cut the white cardstock out around the top of the branch and leaves.

I did most of the cutting with my exacto knife and it was very slow and tedious, but I think it is well worth the effort.  Next time I go shopping, I'm going to look for a better knife (if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them).  For the inside of the card, I cut another frame shape from Accent Essentials at 3.75" high.  I used 1/4" Super Tacky Tape from Provo Craft to adhere the bottom and sides in order to form a pocket.  I cut two clouds from the Serenade cartridge (width was 3.75" not sure on the heights) for the sentiment and for a place to sign the card.

The sentiments reads: "Just a little something to help feather your nest!"

This card was a lot of trial and error (I went through 3 different white bases), but I love the finished card.  The best thing about it is that it turned out exactly as I first envisioned it.  Sorry the pictures aren't so good - it was dark before I was able to take them.  I will be entering this card into 3 challenges.

What a GREAT card! Sounds like a labor of Love. I love those little birds, I don't use my G very much (I like Deign Studio a bit more) so that's why I didn't know about those cute little birdies, I'll have to get out my G and use them for something, they are too cute! Thanks for joining us this week over at BBTB2!
